"Show and Tell"
NJ has been installing small Solar Panels on electrical poles. The contract is for $773 Million.
Who pays for these projects? I asked someone at one of our earth fairs that question and he answered, "government rebates". Who pays for "government rebates?" (taxpayers.)
Has anyone considered how long it will take for this project to reach its "return on investment"? The cost per kilowatt vs. the cost of the project- it just doesn't add up.
How efficient are they? Line loss is one concern. Some were installed under electrical wires and other obstructions. That diminishes the power generated. How about weather damage, road debris and road filth to the panels? Will they be maintained? What is the "life expectancy" of these panels?
I have nothing against Solar Panels. This project was installed so the people could see it. It is our "show and tell". Wouldn't it have made more sense to install a Solar Panel field somewhere? It would be much easier to maintain, and losses in the system would be reduced.
I offer short stories with links to sources in my monthly newsletter, "The Power Factor". (Blog & Forum are opinion pieces.) If you would like to receive this newsletter, please visit www.kvarnational.com and sign up on our Home Page. Thank you.
